Bare Root Plants for Sale

PLEASE READ: If you are local or regional to the Finger Lakes area (able to pick up in person), feel free to reach out to hello@edibleacres.org with a clear wish list of plants and we will work to arrange a pickup.
We update our inventory on March 1st for Spring bare root sales and September 1st for Fall bare root sales. If you are visiting this page and see everything as sold out, please make a note in your calendar to revisit at our next ‘opening’ and pick up some lovely plants!
Our Fall offerings tend to have higher numbers of trees, shrubs, cuttings and a medley of our abundant and fall appropriate herbaceous perennials. Spring offerings will generally have more herbaceous perennials, grasses, etc and a smaller number of trees and shrubs. We weight our inventory in large part based on seasonal appropriateness for establishment. We hope you understand and visit again if you don’t find what you are looking for this time.

Rumex Acetosa
Very hardy perennial green, with a distinctly tart flavor, almost lemony. Excellent in small amounts to add pep to a raw salad, can also be cooked like braising green to add sour elements to a dish.
This is one of the first greens you can enjoy in the early spring, it has great nutritional properties and is effortless to care for.
It will ‘bolt’ when the temperatures get high, so either harvest often or plan to cut it back to reduce woody, tougher leaves that happen mid summer. This is certainly a spring and fall player.
2020 note here - We are mainly offering a version of sorrel that happens to never really bolt. Kind of the best type we’ve ever known, amazing for home cooking or helping out the small chicken operation in your backyard. We know it could be a patented type so what we are offering is ‘sorrel’ and we hope you enjoy what you actually get. It’s wonderful and thank you plant breeding focused people of the past !
