Bare Root Plants for Sale

PLEASE READ: If you are local or regional to the Finger Lakes area (able to pick up in person), feel free to reach out to hello@edibleacres.org with a clear wish list of plants and we will work to arrange a pickup.
We update our inventory on March 1st for Spring bare root sales and September 1st for Fall bare root sales. If you are visiting this page and see everything as sold out, please make a note in your calendar to revisit at our next ‘opening’ and pick up some lovely plants!
Our Fall offerings tend to have higher numbers of trees, shrubs, cuttings and a medley of our abundant and fall appropriate herbaceous perennials. Spring offerings will generally have more herbaceous perennials, grasses, etc and a smaller number of trees and shrubs. We weight our inventory in large part based on seasonal appropriateness for establishment. We hope you understand and visit again if you don’t find what you are looking for this time.

Miscanthus x Giganteus
Giant Miscanthus Grass. What a beast! Gets 12' tall in full sun and good soil, and can handle a wide range of sub-optimal conditions. Does not spread by seed, but expands slowly and steadily through clumping. Powerhouse carbon factory, making strong, hollow, useful stalks that die back in the fall. Stalks can be harvested for rocket stove cooking, long lasting mulch, woven fencing, roofing subsurface, waddle and daub weaving, trellising for peas and others, and and and... Such a useful plant. Completely deer resistant, in fact, it can be planted as a deer fence perimeter plant.
We offer rootlets (image on left shows example) which will get you started in a good and small way, and larger clumps which will have multiple shoots in year one. This plant can be lifted and divided into many more after year 1-2. Tough plant, can handle incredible hardship and still thrive.
Size:
12' tall or even higher in full sun, will scale to sun available. We have some 4-6' in partial shade
Site Preference:
Prefers full sun and can thrive in any soil condition it seems.
